For Kurkdjian, oud conveys mystery, a bewitching narcotic that s truly magnificent. The first of this series, Oud is a remarkably clean, androgynous yet majestic fragrance. This scent story is a sketch of the fine-grained, desert sand, harmattan wind and the star-studded night – an opulent Arabian perfume born out of a western sensitivity. Saffron sparkles, tiny pinpricks of bright light against this layered canvas. Cedarwood emits an unusually dense and sweet smoke, it s burn faintly reminiscent of the dry, rosey aspect of hot labdanum.
